World Athletics Championships 2023: Ghana’s James Dadzie suffers injury in men’s 200m heats
Ghana’s reigning national 200m record-holder, James Dadzie, faced an unfortunate setback during the ongoing 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest as he had to withdraw due to injury.
Dadzie’s journey took a sudden turn during the men’s 200m heats, specifically in heat 4. It became apparent that he had sustained a hamstring injury, rendering him unable to finish the race.
This injury casts a shadow over Dadzie’s performance, as he has been grappling with a hamstring concern since he set the national record in April earlier this year. Despite his previous achievements, his physical condition hindered his ability to compete at his peak.
He had to be assisted off the track. The crowd acknowledged his effort with applause, recognising the dedication and spirit he displayed despite the unfortunate circumstances.
Although Dadzie’s attempt was cut short, the victory in the heat was secured by Canada’s Brendon Rodney. The subsequent places on the podium were claimed by Renan Correa of Brazil in second place and Shaun Maswanganyi of South Africa in third.
Team Ghana is yet to win a medal in Budapest.
