OJ Blaq, renowned for his distinctive musical style and powerful performances, held a special place within the entertainment community. His music resonated deeply with listeners, and his artistic contributions left an enduring mark that continues to inspire.
Born as Andy Nii Akrashie in Accra, Ghana, OJ Blaq embarked on his musical journey in the early 2000s. His inaugural album, “The Blaq Mixtape,” hit the scene in 2006, catapulting him into the spotlight.
As his career progressed, he consistently shared his musical talents through a series of impactful singles, with his chart-topping track “Chalewote” receiving widespread acclaim.
OJ Blaq’s path was marked by resilience, having twice cheated death after battling kidney failure.
These close calls with mortality seemed to awaken a profound spiritual awakening within him.
According to multiple sources, he turned away from his former secular music career and a lifestyle of binge drinking/smoking and embraced gospel music, releasing the album “SHOW DEM.”
This turning point led him to find solace and purpose in his newfound faith while serving under the leadership of Gideon Danso until his passing on August 16, 2023, in Accra.
The vigil organized by Lynx Entertainment promises to be a poignant tribute to the legacy of OJ Blaq.
